Scientific research and international collaboration

Sirte Gulf International University is pleased to announce the publication of a joint scientific paper in medicinal chemistry and drug development, in collaboration with researchers from leading international universities in Morocco (Mohammed V University, Mohammed First University and Abdelmalek Essaâdi University), Saudi Arabia (Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University) and Belgium (KU Leuven).

The study involved the design and synthesis of new chemical compounds and the testing of their activity against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, particularly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It followed an integrated methodology combining laboratory experiments with advanced computer simulations, and produced promising results demonstrating the inhibitory capacity of these compounds.

The University was represented in this work by Dr Malik Haji, the corresponding author, who contributed substantially to the conception, methodology and writing of the research, and carried out the computational analyses using quantum simulation (DFT) and molecular modelling techniques (molecular docking and ADMET).

The paper was published in the Journal of Molecular Structure, published by Elsevier – a peer-reviewed journal indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, ranked in the second quartile (Q2), with an impact factor of 4.7 and a CiteScore of 8, reflecting the quality and scientific significance of the research.

On receiving Dr Malik Haji, Ms Salma Esbaie, Chair of the University’s Board, affirmed the University’s commitment to supporting research and scientific publication, noting that such collaborative work strengthens the presence of Sirte Gulf International University and raises its standing on the regional and international research map.
